The legacy of outstanding teachers is recognized, fittingly, by those contributing to Mentor Funds. In 1999, the 21st Century Fund inaugurated Mentor Funds named for leaders in geography education. Those wishing to honor individuals may establish funds in their names at a benchmark with initial gifts of $5,000. Four mentor funds have been established to date in tribute to the following individuals:

Richard T. Anderson, professor emeritus, Salem State College, Massachusetts

Mamie Louise Anderzohn (deceased), Indiana University of Pennsylvania

Douglas MacLeod, retired, Ontario Ministry of Education

James J. Wetzler, retired, Pennsylvania Department of Education

Founder Funds

Those wishing to create major legacies for the Council may wish to do so through the Founder Funds, created in 1999. Founder Funds require a minimum contribution of $10,000. Founder Funds have been established in honor of the following individuals:

Lawrence A. Brown, distinguished university professor and chair of geography at The Ohio State University

E. Willard Miller (deceased), associate dean and professor emeritus of geography, The Pennsylvania State University
