Awards Program and Submission Process

The National Council for Geographic Education is dedicated to recognizing educators and advocates who have made outstanding contributions to geography education. Awards are given for teaching, research, and service.  NCGE's highest award is the George J Miller Award, named for NCGE's founder and long-time editor of the Journal of Geography. Award nomination materials can be submitted in the spring to the NCGE Central Office.  The materials are then forwarded to the appropriate committees for evaluation. Winners are announced in early summer and recipients are recognized at a special ceremony during NCGE's annual conference. 
The 2016 NCGE award winners have been announced!
Award recipients will be honored during a ceremony held at the 2016 National Conference on Geography Education presented by the National Council for Geographic Education. The 2016 National Conference on Geography Education will be held July 28 – 31, 2016 at the Tampa Marriott Waterside Hotel & Marina in Tampa, Florida. The awards ceremony will take place on Saturday, July 30th at 6:00 PM EST. See all 2016 award winners here, and be sure to extend your congratulatory wishes to this year's honorees!
