Omaha as a Post-Industrial City

Cost – $10
Space is Limited | Registration Required | Walking Tour

Join Geographic Educators of Nebraska teachers as they guide you across time and space to examine the changing cultural and historical landscape of downtown Omaha. As the city responded to changes in transportation, the walking city, the streetcar city, and the automobile city have left their brush strokes on the canvas of the landscape. Streets in downtown Omaha were lowered up to 32 feet to accommodate the streetcar. The economic functions of downtown have changed from being the state capital and a hub for heavy industry to include fine and performing arts, corporate headquarters, and people places.
